As that famous Yankee catcher and philosopher Yogi Beri once said, “It’s déjà vu all over again.” Here I am, 32 years after 1994’s Clarksville Community Players’ production of Guys and Dolls writing about it again. Many of the original cast members have moved from the area, but Eileen Barbieri, Tammy Tillotson, Ken Vaiden, Donna Tollerson, Irene Chapman, Nada Hundley, Charles Ramsey, and Saree O’Brien will remember what fun they had playing roles based on some of Damon Runyon’s quirky New Yorkers. However, this time around, Music Theatre International (MTI) has reimagined the show and published it for licensing as Guys and Dolls Sr. Memorable songs like “Sit Down, Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat” and “Luck, Be a Lady Tonight” remain; beloved characters Nathan, Adelaide, Sky, Sarah, show girls, gamblers and missionaries have not changed except they’re older!
One can imagine someone at MTI suddenly exclaiming, “Hey, why don’t we market a senior version of Guys & Dolls? “ And why not? Clarksville is already familiar with the junior versions of Broadway shows performed by the children and youth during their summer workshops: Beauty and the Beast, Shrek the Musical, Frozen, etc.
When Director Monica Walter and Music Director Mike Doan, both members of the Double Nickel Players, learned about the show being offered to over-55 performers, they brought it to the attention of the Players’ Board of Directors as a fundraiser for the Fine Arts Center’s last phase of renovation. Now into the last month of rehearsals, the elements of story, music, dance, crap shooting, and Salvation Army bass drum beating are coming together for two matinee performances at the Clarksville Fine Arts Center, Saturday and Sunday, February 14th and 15th at 2 p.m. With the amazing generosity of the Clarksville community well established, this fundraiser is being offered free of charge; no reservations; no pre-paid tickets, just asking whatever you can afford to enjoy a fabulous show and give to finish the Fine Arts Center’s renovations. In the words of Nathan Detroit, organizer of the oldest floating crap game in New York, “we bet you’re going to like this!”
Guys and Dolls Sr. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. wwwMTIShows.com.

The Tidewater Guitar Orchestra returns by popular demand to the Clarksville Fine Arts Center on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 3:00 PM, presenting an exciting afternoon of music by The Beatles, reimagined for guitar orchestra.
This dynamic ensemble will showcase the rich and varied sound of multiple guitar voices, including requinto, classical, baja, and contrabass. Local guest vocalist Nancy Rowe will join the orchestra for a special featured selection.
The orchestra last appeared in Clarksville in 2024 for a holiday concert that delighted audiences and left many amazed at the depth and power of sound produced by a full guitar orchestra.
Clarksville native Patrick Garrison will conduct the performance, and audience members can look forward to a special moment in the first half of the program, when Garrison will step out from the podium to perform on guitar at the request of the community—an appearance that adds a meaningful hometown connection to the concert.
This will be an engaging and educational experience for audiences of all ages!
Adult tickets are $25, and children’s tickets are $10.
This special event is funded in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts through its Touring Artist Program.
The phrase "Nothing Less Than Brilliant" (Performance Magazine) has been used to describe the outrageous comedy antics and expertly crafted juggling feats of Mark Nizer!
He is scheduled to perform at Clarksville Fine Arts Center on March 14th, 2026, at 7:30PM.
Mark Nizer is one of the greatest entertainment comedians and jugglers performing today. His wild exploits have landed him on MTV, HBO’s Just for Laughs, Arsenio Hall, Bob Hope and Other Young Comedians, Comic Strip Live and LA Law.
He has opened for Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Hope, George Burns, John Byner, Gladys Knight, The Temptations, Johnny Mathis, Ray Charles, and Barry Manilow. The late Bob Hope said, "He just keeps getting better and I didn’t think that was possible."
Making the impossible possible and the improbable probable, Mark Nizer has taken his one man show to a variety of venues around the world, including The Improv, The Comedy Store, Walt Disney World, numerous college campuses, and all major cruise lines.
He has also performed in thousands of opera houses, civic centers, festivals and performing arts centers including the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (three times). Entertainment Magazine states, "Without a doubt the hottest juggler on the entertainment market, Mark Nizer is simply incredible."
Don’t miss the combination of original comedy, world class juggling, movement, music and technology that promises a spellbinding evening. Whether juggling laser beams at 1000 rpms, or five ping pong balls being thrown 20 feet in the air using only his mouth; or even juggling a burning propane tank, a running electric carving knife and a 16-pound bowling ball, you'll discover for yourself that Mark Nizer is truly "the juggler your mother warned you about." Or if she didn't, she should have. Reservations may be obtained by simply scrolling down to the bottom of this page, or clicking on our 'Tickets' tab at the top of the screen :)
Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for children under 18. The theater lobby opens at 6:30pm, with auditorium doors opening at 7:00pm.
